  • Taught freshman English, covering works such as Lord of the FliesRomeo and Juliet, and poems including May Swenson’s “Playing Baseball” and Sherman Alexie’s “Facebook Sonnet.” Differentiated complex texts—like Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet—by providing modern translations, comparing film adaptations with the original, and offering visual or comic book companions. Guided students in writing essays on figurative language and its relationship to theme, ensuring accessibility for learners from all backgrounds. Offered multiple pathways for students to demonstrate skills, including argumentative essays, differentiated Socratic seminars, and text illustration/annotation.
